Tile Mirror

This 18 x 18 inch mural has a 12 x 12 inch mirror surrounded by hand made tiles. The grout and frame are black. The tiles include hearts, skulls, flowers, numerals, fish and glass globs.

Tile Mirror

This tiled mirror is 18 x 18 with a 12 x 12 mirror. All the surrounding tiles are hand made. There are snakes, butterflies, flowers, hearts guitars, a dog bone, skulls, a peace sign and more. The grout and frame are black.

Skullsicles

These 1 1/2 inch skulls sport wire or nail studded hair. Some have beads in their hair and some have earrings.
The Skullsicles are on a 12 inch stick ready to be stuck in an indoor plant. Tied under their chins are several scraps of fabric. In 2011, they were available exclusively at Julia Zagar's Eyes Gallery at 4 th and South Street in Philadelphia, just in time for Day of the Dead!

Magic Garden

Another view of the Magic Garden. Inside the museum are small tile murals by Isaiah for purchase. Down the street at 4 th and South is Julia Zagar's shop, The Eyes Gallery. She sells folk art from all over the world, but mostly from Mexico and South America. This year she is also exclusively carrying my Skullsicles!!!

Magic Garden

Here I am in Isaiah and Julia Zagar's Magic Garden in Philadelphia at 10th and South Street.
It is a crazy, wild tile extravaganza! The walls, floors, stairs, nooks, railings EVERYTHING is covered in tile.
Isaiah also uses pottery, mirrors, bottles, bicycle rims, (pretty much anything) to make the walls and floors.
This photo is just a teeny tiny corner of this masterpiece.

Skulls with Wings

The tile heart is about 2 inches tall. It has a beaded hanger. The glaze on the heart is made from melted glass beads that gives it a stained glass look.
The two winged skulls measure about 8 inches tip to tip. The wings are wood with newspaper glued on top.
The wings are decorated with beads, hearts, skulls and mirror bits.

Zen Garden

This mural has three 2 x 6 inch tiles that have a  bamboo stick tied on with reed.
The stones are tied to the sand-textured background with copper wires.
The frame around the mirror is black wrought iron.

Leaf Mosaic, Tree Trio

The top mosaic has tile leaves and broken tiles surrounding the leaves.
The tree tile is 6 x 6 inches. The tree sits on an open frame of textured, glazed clay.
The side tiles are 2 x 6 inches and include a piece of bamboo tied on with reed.

Skull Boxes

The skulls in this photo are about 11/2 inches tall. They have curly wire hair. Some of the hairdos sport beads and some of the skulls are wearing earrings. The boxes are painted and decorated with beads.

Tiled Mirror

This mirror is 12 x 12 inches. The tiles are attached to a wood base with a 3 inch square mirror in the middle.
There is no grout between the tiles, instead, tiny glass beads fill the spaces between the tiles.

Skull Boxes

The skulls in this photo are about 1 1/2 " high. The smallest box on the left is 2 x 2 inches.
These boxes are painted, have small images glued on the sides and backs and have beads, buttons and mirror bits glued on the inside and outsides.
